Vietnam eSIM Guide: Daily Data vs Total Data (2026)

Travelling to Vietnam? This guide compares five VOYA Vietnam eSIMs. Most are named "Unlimited Data", so compare the daily allowance and what happens when it's used up. On some plans data stops until your next daily allowance starts; on others you stay connected at a reduced speed. Here's how to choose.

1. 7GB a day, 3–30 days

Choose 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 15, 20 or 30 days. The plan includes 7GB of data per day. Once the day's 7GB is used up, data stops until your next daily allowance starts – it does not continue at a reduced speed. Start using the plan within 30 days of installing the QR code, or it expires.

2. 5GB a day, 2–30 days

Choose 2 to 10 days, 15, 20, 25 or 30 days. The plan includes 5GB of data per day. Once the day's 5GB is used up, data stops until your next daily allowance starts. Start using it within 30 days of installing the QR code.

3. 5GB a day, 5–30 days

Choose 5, 7, 10, 15 or 30 days. It also includes 5GB of data per day; once the day's 5GB is used up, data stops until your next daily allowance starts. The 30-day option is labelled "Must be activated within 15 days", so check the product page before choosing it.

4. 1GB, 2GB or 3GB a day, then a reduced speed

Choose 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20 or 30 days, and 1GB, 2GB or 3GB of high-speed data per day. After the daily allowance is used, data continues at 128kbps or 384kbps (depending on the option), so you stay connected. Your high-speed data resets at midnight local time.

For all options except 5 Days (1GB/2GB/3GB) and 7 Days / 3GB, start using the plan within 30 days of installing the QR code.

5. 3GB to 50GB total, 3–30 days

A total-data plan, not a daily plan. Choose 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 or 30 days and 3GB, 5GB, 10GB, 20GB, 30GB or 50GB. Once your total high-speed data is used up, you stay connected at a reduced speed of 128kbps or 384kbps (depending on the plan you choose) until the plan ends. There is no midnight reset. Some options must be used within 30 days of installing the QR code – the product page lists which ones.

Data that stops, or data that slows down?

The 5GB and 7GB daily plans give you more data each day, but once the day's allowance is used up you have no mobile data until the next one starts. The 1GB–3GB daily plan and the total-data plan give you less high-speed data, but you stay connected afterwards – at 128kbps or 384kbps, which is much slower than normal mobile data. If you stream video or upload lots of photos, choose a bigger daily allowance.

How to set up your Vietnam eSIM

  1. Check your phone. It must support eSIM and be unlocked (not tied to one carrier).
  2. Buy and get your QR code by email.
  3. Install it with your phone camera. You can scan and install the QR code before your trip – just don't turn on data roaming until you arrive, so your plan doesn't start early. Many options must be used within 30 days of installing, so install close to your departure date.
  4. On arrival, select the VOYA eSIM for mobile data and turn on Data Roaming for it. Allow 3–5 minutes for it to connect.

FAQ

What happens when my daily data runs out?
On the 5GB and 7GB daily plans, data stops until your next daily allowance starts. On the 1GB/2GB/3GB daily plan, you stay connected at a reduced speed, and high-speed data resets at midnight local time.

Do these plans include a Vietnamese phone number?
No. All five plans in this guide are data-only, with no local phone number included.

Can I delete the eSIM after my trip?
Keep it installed while you still need the plan – the eSIM can only be installed once, so it can't be reinstalled after you delete it.

What if it doesn't connect after I arrive?
Make sure Data Roaming is turned on for the VOYA eSIM and wait 3–5 minutes. If it still isn't working, connect to Wi-Fi and contact us on WhatsApp.
